The Brazilian Society of Food Science and Technology, in recognition of its 42nd anniversary, presents the 22nd Biannual Brazilian Conference on Food Science and Technology, one of the biggest conferences of its kind in Latin America. The CBCTA (Congresso Brasileiro de Ciência e Tecnologia de Alimentos), which gathers food sector professionals involved in the areas of science, agriculture, technology, nutrition and health, will be held in Salvador, also known as the “capital of joy.” Conference participants will have the opportunity to enjoy the city’s beauty and hospitality, as well as this modern, scientifically innovative program. Hosted by the Bahia Secretariat, the 22nd CBCTA will foster the spread of knowledge in food-sector technology and industrial development in Brazil. It will also improve the exchange among national and international institutions, and promote cooperation among professionals, companies, researchers, professors, post-graduates and undergraduates. The extensive list of participants is a reflection of the importance of the food sector, with its contrasts and responsibilities.
The theme of the conference is Food Science and Technology: Potentialities, Challenges and Innovations.
The program will be broad and diversified, including conferences, lectures, panels, round tables, successful experiences, course updates, and will include scientific papers presented in simultaneous sessions. In addition, we will have dedicated spaces for exhibits by national and international organizations, companies, and laboratories.
The conference will be held with the support of federal and state universities, and other sponsoring groups from Brazil, including governmental institutions, development agencies, the food industry, exporters, and research institutions.
The event will serve as a lab for the XVI World Congress of Food Science and Technology, part of the International Union of Food Science & Technology (IUFST), to be held in Salvador in 2012. As the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere, this international congress is a watershed event in the history of science and food technology in Brazil, and particularly in Bahia.
